Flex space: wired, inexpensive, and adaptable

Startups once ruled flex space. The ready-made office space can be used for anything from a huge computer room to a warehouse to a field of cubicles–or any combination in between. Now, however, established businesses looking to expand or move are discovering the benefits of flex space.

The typical flex space building stands one or two stories tall with surface parking and easily accessible loading docks. The minimal interior design, high ceilings, and open floor layout lends itself to various uses from light industry to office space. These utilitarian buildings are cheaper to build and come wired with high-tech infrastructures.

In the Metroplex area alone, the North Central Texas Council of Governments reports that more than 16 million square feet of flex space are under construction. With the options provided by flex space, companies of all shapes and sizes are finding traditional offices rather inflexible.
