Handheld tips

Find things fast

If you’re looking for a specific item in your Palm-type PDA, use the Find icon, which is the magnifying glass in the lower-right corner of your screen. Click the icon and enter what you’re looking for or let Palm do the work for you: Highlight a word, such as a client’s name in your address book, and then click the icon. Palm will locate everywhere that client’s name appears in the Palm, whether in your date book or to-do list.

Skip Graffiti

Despite what the folks at Palm might say, Graffiti can be cumbersome when entering more than a few characters into your PDA. But the Palm OS does offer a ShortCut feature that enables you to store long entries and recall them using only a few characters. To access the ShortCut menu, tap the Preferences icon from Palm’s main screen and select ShortCuts from the top-right menu. Click the New button and enter the text of your ShortCut, along with its name. (Keep the name short.) When you’re done, draw the ShortCut stroke (a lowercase L) in the text area of the Graffiti field and write the name of your ShortCut. Your text will appear in the application you’re using.

Delete the extra steps

Delete appointments, contacts, and memos quickly in your PDA by running your stylus from the bottom-left to top-right corner of the left Graffiti field then writing the letter d. This action eliminates the selected item and works in Palm OS applications like the address book, date book, and to-do list.
