There’s no place like close to home

What a difference a year makes. After the weakest demand in a decade for vacation rentals in 2001, the summer-rental market has rebounded this year to the point where many owners in January were already booked for the summer at sky-high rates.

Early trends indicate Americans are choosing to pack up the SUV and drive to the beach or lake rather than jet off to Europe or the Caribbean. This spike in demand for U.S. vacation rentals means good news for landlords, who hold the upper hand in the market.

Less-traveled vacation spots should also benefit this year from the lack of availability at more-popular vacation destinations. So if your property could benefit from some summer renters, get the word out.
