If you like the idea of online advertising companies tracking your Web activity in order to customize the ads you see, youre in luck. Theyre already doing it. If this feels more like an invasion of your hard drive, you have a choice. The Network Advertising Initiative Web site (NetworkAdvertising.org) gives you the ability to opt out of several of the largest online advertising networks. Opting out does not clear cookies off your hard drive. Rather, it replaces the unique advertising cookie on your hard drive with a general "opt out" cookie. So, if you ever delete cookies or get a new computer, you must opt out again. Opting out from these services will not stop all advertisers from tracking youonly those who are members of the NAI.
