2002 REALTOR® of the Year: Ron Wakefield

Ron Wakefield, broker/owner of Wakefield, REALTORS®, in San Antonio, received TAR’s top honor as the 2002 REALTOR® of the Year. Wakefield has served in numerous leadership positions on various levels of the REALTOR® organization throughout his successful career.

At the local level, Wakefield served as president of the San Antonio board in 1985 and won the SABOR REALTOR® of the Year award in 1986. Despite the troubled economy during this time, he helped build the SABOR credit union into an unlikely financial success.

Wakefield transitioned to statewide leadership in the early 1990s, being elected TAR secretary/treasurer in 1992. As president of TAR in 1994, Wakefield traveled to all regions of the state to educate Texas REALTORS® on recently passed legislation requiring agency disclosure–a highly misunderstood and unpopular topic at the time. He also implemented the task-force concept at TAR that’s still in use today.

At the national level, he served on NAR’s board of directors from 1990-94 and 1996-2000.
