2003 REALTOR® of the Year: Ann Houston

2003 REALTOR® of the Year: Ann Houston
Ann Houston, broker/owner of Houston-Darby Buyer Brokerage in Denton, received the top honor of the Texas Association of REALTORS® as the 2003 REALTOR® of the Year. Houston has served in numerous leadership and influential positions on various levels of the REALTOR® organization throughout her successful career.

At the local level, Houston served as president of the Greater Denton/Wise County association in 1986. She also twice won the Greater Denton/Wise County REALTOR® of the Year Award, in 1987 and 2000.

Houston’s statewide leadership includes stints on the TAR Legislative, Education, Nominating, and Recommendations committees, and she also served as a TAR regional vice president and director.

At the national level, Houston spent time on NAR’s Equal Opportunity Committee and currently serves as an NAR director. But her real passion is politics.

Houston has worked quietly over the years to protect the real estate industry and private-property rights. She is a life member of TREPAC and has chaired the TAR Political Affairs Committee, where she helped usher in a new era of REALTOR® political activism. Under her leadership, the Texas Association of REALTORS® became one of the most respected grassroots political organizations in the state.
