Marty Kramer Whether
you cultivate it or not, you have an image. Everyone does. And in a business
where you sell yourself as much as you sell property, image counts.
Image is much more than
a jacket that looks good on you. Everything you do, say, hand out, and drive,
the technology you use, the signs you pound into the ground, the clothes and
accessories you wear (yes, including that jacket that looks so good on you),
the way you walk and talk, all contribute to how others perceive you.
Here are 20 ways to polish
your image today:

-
Have
your clothes pressed. Whether you dress down or "to the nines,"
neatness counts.
-
Stop
saying uhm, uh, and other noises that
make you sound unintelligent.
-
Get
new glasses. The fact that youve been wearing the same pair
for 16 years doesnt necessarily make them a classic. It makes
them old.
- Clean
your signs and riders.

| |
| |
|
-
Read over
and spell-check all written correspondence (yes, that includes e-mail)
before sending it out.
|
| |
| |
|
| |
-
Stand up straight
-
Hire an image
consultant. Image consultants provide guidance on a variety of things,
from what colors, clothing, and accessories look good on you to
etiquette to presentation skills.
-
Work on your
handshake. Nobody likes to be greeted with a limp fish or a bone-crusher.
A nice, firm handshake starts a business relationship off just right.
|
| |
| |
|
-
Look people
in the eye.
|
| |
| |
|
| |
-
Send hand-written
thank-you notes.
-
Consider your
car. Your wheels do say something about who you are. Are you trying
to get into farm and ranch sales? Maybe your Miata isnt working
as well for you as, say, a Suburban would. (OK, this is one tip
you might not be able to pull off today. In the meantime, clean
your car inside and out. Remember, neatness counts.)
-
Arrive early
to appointments.
-
Hire a graphic
designer to create (or redesign) your logo. While youre at
it, get professional help on all your marketing materials.
-
Be confident.
If you dont have confidence in yourself, why should anyone
else?
-
Pay attention
to all aspects of personal grooming. Dont forget
neatness
counts.
-
Stop using slang
and industry jargon. Oh, and dont curse.
|
| |
| |
|
-
Smile more.
