ID theft on the rise |

The Internet has made it easier for identity thieves to steal your credit cards, social security number, and financial information, right? Maybe so, but according to a Computerworld article, fewer than 1% of cases can be traced to the Internet. The top causes for identity thefts are still stolen mail and lost wallets or purses. Identity theft has soared in the past year, though, and its possible that the Federal Trade Commission is not yet able to trace the number of cases linked to the Internet. One FTC official said that although unlikely, Internet-related identity theft could be as high as 20% of the total problem. Photo © 2001 PhotoDisc.
