Doing everything yourself might give you a satisfying sense of control, but at some point, you will experience diminishing returns. Delegating can help. REALTORS® with assistants and teams aren’t the only ones who can benefit from delegating. You may be able to use the firm’s administrative staff or managers–there even may be some tasks you assign to your clients. To get the most from others, keep the following in mind:

  • When process isn’t important, don’t dictate it. Just clearly communicate your desired result and let the person get there however he wants.
  • Give tasks to the right person. Make sure he has the skills and resources available to accomplish the task.
  • Consider alternatives. If you can hire a courier service to deliver items for less than you pay your assistant, find other tasks your assistant can take off your plate rather than making deliveries.
