Whether you do it yourself or have a tech expert at your disposal, registering a domain is easy. You can find dozens of registrars online by performing a search on the words register domain. No matter what registrar’s site you visit, you will be able to search for your desired address to determine if it is available. Most registrars offer additional services, like automatic address forwarding, e-mail accounts, e-mail forwarding accounts, Web hosting, and more.
Keep in mind that registering a domain name is not the same as paying someone to design, maintain, or host your Web site. It simply gives you the rights to that name and, if you choose, assigns the name to the Internet address where your actual Web site resides. You can also choose to purchase a domain name and “park” it, which essentially is a page that appears with a message of your choosing rather than a full Web site.
You can transfer domain names from one registrar to another. You might choose to do so if you feel you will get better pricing, customer service, or additional features. Look for instructions about how to transfer domain names on any registrar’s Web site.
