Men and women worlds apart on e-mail styles

Not only are men from Mars and women from Venus, but they learned to use e-mail on different planets as well. Women tend to open up and write polite, lavish, verbose e-mails reminiscent of a conversation. Men favor functional, brief messages that are sometimes blunt, often terse, and rely on bare facts and information for a message’s substance.

Rather than attempting to change the way men and women communicate, tailor your e-mail messages to your recipients. When e-mailing a woman, pay more attention to detail and expect more in return. If you’re trying to pry answers or emotions from a male client, be direct and brief. Tweaking your messages to reflect recipients’ tendencies beats trying to undo thousands of years of evolution.
