by Mary Frances Burleson Do you feel like you are reinventing yourself every few months? Since September 11, we have been inundated with world events and changes in the economy, while challenges grow in the form of the ever-quickening speed of business, changes in marketing, homebuyer and seller Internet use, and the constant struggle to use our time and talents and money effectively. The good news is that despite what seems like a mountain of change, the core values in our business and personal lives remain the same. We still are focused on our clients and the effort to deliver great service to them. We appreciate our families and friends and spend time with them. When we see whats going on with accounting procedures, insider trading, and other business problems with major corporations, it reminds us just how important it is for us to deliver great service, to do it all ethically and morally and within the framework of the law. As it has been said many times, real estate is probably the most regulated profession. Arent we glad! We know that REALTORS® are self-directed, professional, reliable, and we all aim toward success. Now, what does it take for us to continue to consistently deliver great service and yet be flexible and adapt to changes in the competitive marketplace? What are our challenges? Maximizing our talents and seeking others to work with us who have the same dreams and goals. Lots of competition for good talent. To find the ability to work while maintaining the balance in our lives. (Isnt that one of the toughest things to do?) We must also not neglect our responsibility as corporate citizens and get involved in the communities where we live. And lets not forget the importance of participating in politics locally, statewide, and nationally. In light of all the above, may I direct you to the Texas REALTORS® Convention to be held in Houston, Sept. 19-23. I invite you to "put the pieces together" with outstanding events such as a keynote address, Breaking Through Barriers with a Grin, by Walter Sanford, an education session to help you master your Palm OS handheld, programs on safety, diversity and fair housing, how to avoid fraud, and so much more. There truly is something for everyone. See the complete schedule and find all the other convention information you need online at TexasRealtors.com. What a wonderful group of speakers and opportunities! They will help us grow our businesses, find balance in our lives, and continue our efforts to build a culture of excellence, a wonderful work environmentall with open communicationas we share the vision! Be there or be square! Happy Days!
