A hotel’s success these days is becoming more connected to, well, connections. High-speed Internet connections are sought by half of all business travelers, according to a survey by Expedia.com. The online travel-booking service recently started noting which hotels offer the service.

While hotels aren’t generating enormous revenues from data connections–some charge for it; others include service in the price of the room–many guests are basing their lodging decisions on whether a property offers broadband access. About a thousand U.S. hotels are expected to add high-speed connections this year, doubling the total number of properties offering such service. Some hotels may prefer to install wireless networks as that technology continues to gain acceptance rather than retrofitting rooms with wired connections.
