How long do credit mistakes stick around? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
A hickey on your credit report does not remain there forever. Late payments drop off after seven years, as do amounts turned over to a collection agency and accounts written off as a loss. Notations of lost credit cards disappear from your report after two years if you dont have any delinquencies; seven years if you do. Even bankruptcies cycle off your report in seven or 10 years depending on the type of bankruptcy. Tax liens, child-support judgments, civil and small-claims judgments also come off your report after seven years.
