Techies want their space cool, man

A growing trend among young tech companies is the request for unconventional, hip-looking work space, according to The Washington Post.

Instead of mahogany desks and cubicles, a number of commercial brokers and architects are reporting that technology companies competing avidly for young, tech-savvy employees are requesting spaces that accommodate game rooms and unconventional furniture. Popular choices for such space are converted industrial buildings, which have open floor plans and exposed ceilings that lend themselves to funky decoration.

Another option is leasing in a moderately-priced building and negotiating a building allowance with the landlord to cover the cost of renovation. Companies embracing the new style say the key is to look cool, but not cheap.
