More Texas homeowners using home warranties

The use of home warranties and the number of service calls on the warranties by Texas homeowners more than doubled from 1995 to 1999, according to the Texas Warranty Association.

The association attributes an increased awareness of residential service contracts (home warranties) for the increase. The amount of money paid out in claims also rose dramatically during the same period. The amount paid to Texas homeowners more than tripled from 1995 to 1999.

The association reports that Texas consumers saved approximately $62 million on repairs and replacements during 1999 by using home warranties. The average amount paid on each claim in the state was $112.98, and nearly two service calls per household are made per contract year.
