Texas • Louisiana REALTORS® Convention

There were big doings in Big D as more than 800 REALTORS® turned out for the 2001 TAR/LR Convention and MarketPlace. While the event featured essential business meetings and topical education sessions, it also provided plenty of opportunities for entertainment and fun. This two-page spread can’t possibly do justice to the entire four-day convention, but here are some of the highlights:

  • The TAR board of directors unanimously approved a $50,000 donation to the REALTORS® Housing Relief Fund, which NAR established to pay mortgage and rent costs of the families devastated by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

  • Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk joined REALTORS® at an inspirational service to reflect on the tragedies of Sept. 11. Wendell Hodges of the Greater Fort Worth association punctuated the service with a stirring rendition of "Proud to be an American."

  • This year’s installation gala featured Mary Frances Burleson of Dallas being sworn in as the 2002 TAR Chairman of the Board by her mentor, Ebby Halliday. Also installed as 2002 TAR officers were Chairman-elect George Stephens of Houston and Secretary/Treasurer Dave Dalzell of Abilene.

  • John Stone was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the TAR Board of Directors Meeting.

  • Audrey Selden, senior associate commissioner at the Texas Department of Insurance, spoke about homeowner-insurance coverage for mold.

  • The TAR board of directors approved a resolution honoring President George W. Bush that expresses TAR’s support for his leadership during the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.
