Highlights from Houston

Scenes from the 2002 Texas REALTORS® Convention.

The REALTORS® in attendance at this year’s convention were confronted with a vexing problem: How could they listen to the industry’s top speakers, earn up to 15 hours of MCE, get updated on the latest legislative and legal issues, and browse through the countless products showcased at the Convention MarketPlace–all in one weekend?

Well, almost 1,000 Texas REALTORS® managed to squeeze in all those activities while finding time to see old friends and establish contacts with new ones. TAR thanks you for making the 2002 Texas REALTORS® Convention and MarketPlace a rousing success.

If you didn’t make it to this September’s big event in Houston, here’s a brief look at what you missed:

  • At the installation gala, George Stephens was sworn in as the 2003 TAR chairman of the board by TAR President and CEO Benny McMahan and HAR President and CEO Bob Hale, who provided a look back at Stephens’ many accomplishments with a touch of humor.
  • The governmental affairs forum featured a tribute to retiring Texas Sen. Buster Brown, as well as an address by state Sen. David Bernsen.
  • Jacob Casanova and Kay LePage were presented with the TAR Distinguished Service Award at the board of directors meeting.
  • The TAR board of directors voted unanimously to support and participate in the Texas AMBER Alert Network, which assists law-enforcement officials in their search for abducted children.
  • Pastor Vance Russell provided an uplifting message while the Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir got everyone dancing in the aisles at the inspiration breakfast.
