Put favorites on your desktop Jump to your favorite Web sites with a click of the mouse. Using Internet Explorer, go to a Web page and, from the pull-down menu, select File > Send > Shortcut to Desktop. An icon identifying that Web page will appear on your PCs desktop. When you want to go directly to that site, just double-click the icon; Internet Explorer will automatically launch and take you straight to that page. Use this tip to automatically launch other files, too, such as Word documents. You can also change the initial page that loads every time you launch Internet Exploreryour "home" page. Open Internet Explorer and, from the pull-down menu, select Tools > Internet Options and choose the General tab at the top of the box that appears. Enter your desired URL in the Address field of the Home page section. Get vertical in Word Normally, your mouse highlights text horizontally in Word, which is fine for most documents. But if you want to include only the first part of several lines, hold down the Alt key while you drag the mouse. This action allows you to vertically highlight text in Word documents. Internet Explorer keyboard shortcut Cut down on your keystrokes when typing URLs. If you know a Web-site address starts with "www" and ends with ".com," dont bother to type those parts. Just enter the domain name and hit Ctrl + Enter. Internet Explorer automatically fills in the "www" and ".com" in the address. For example, to access Texas REALTOR® magazines Web site, type "texasrealtoronline" and hit Ctrl + Enter.
