The Texas Association of REALTORS® has joined the AMBER Alert Network to ensure that every available resource is used to return abducted children safely to their loved ones. At the recent Texas REALTORS® Convention, the associations board of directors voted unanimously to be an active participant in the program. In the event of an alert, Texas REALTORS® within a 200-mile radius will be notified via e-mail and fax with abduction details. TAR Chairman of the Board Mary Frances Burleson says Texas REALTORS® are ready, willing, and able to help spread the word in the event of a childs abduction. "REALTORS® are used to helping peoplewe help families in good times and bad," Burleson says. "We all have families of our own, so when a child is taken its a concern for us all. In those rare cases, time is of the essence and returning abducted children safely to their parents is the top priority." Benny McMahan, TAR president and CEO, adds that because REALTORS® are mobile and wired, they are a natural fit for the Texas AMBER Alert Network. "REALTORS® are constantly out in their cars, with cell phones and quick access to e-mail," says McMahan. "We will be able to mobilize our members very quickly should the need arise."
