You don’t get it

Why important e-mails may not be coming through.

Spam filters may be robbing you of e-mail messages you want to read. How? These software filters use objective measures–things like how many recipients the e-mail is sent to and what words the sender includes in the subject line. So, e-mail messages with certain characteristics–especially newsletters and other communications with large distribution–that you want may be blocked from your in-box.

But you don’t use a spam filter, so you have nothing to worry about, right? Maybe, maybe not. Your Internet service provider (ISP) or network administrator may filter your incoming e-mail without you even knowing it. Most of the time, that’s a good thing. The majority of e-mail that spam filters deny is spam. But if you are expecting e-mail messages that never show up, you may want to check with the ISP or technical staff at your office.

Several Texas REALTORS® found that spam filters were the reason they were not receiving Texas REALTOR® Focus, the biweekly e-mail newsletter sent to TAR members. Once they requested that e-mails with addresses that end in texasrealtors.com be put on their ISP’s or local network’s approved-senders list, Texas REALTOR® Focus came through.
