Ah, the good old days, back when your computer didnt freeze up, throw a constant stream of error messages at you, and otherwise act erratically. If your computers operating system is Windows XP or Windows ME, you can use the System Restore tool to go back to a time when your computer operated more smoothly. System Restore automatically saves "snapshots" of your system settings on a regular basis. You can also manually create a restore point, say, before you download a new freeware program from the Internet. When you restore your computer to an earlier time, the system settings revert to those in place at the restore point. You will not lose any data, like documents you recently created or photos and other files you saved to your hard drive. System Restore does not delete programs that have been installed, so if you suspect your computer problems stem from software youve added, you should use the Add/Remove Programs utility to get rid of that program first. To access the System Restore utility, go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Photo © Brand X Pictures.
