Bob Wertheimer 1934-2003

Past TAR president was outstanding volunteer and leader.

Bob Wertheimer, 1985 president of the Texas Association of REALTORS® and the association’s REALTOR® of the Year in 1988, died on Aug. 30. Wertheimer not only excelled in the real estate business but also was instrumental as a volunteer at all levels of the REALTOR® organization. He served on numerous TAR committees. During Wertheimer’s years as TREPAC chairman in 2001 and 2002, the political action committee reached record
contribution levels.

He is one of only 62 REALTORS® to have received NAR’s prestigious Distinguished Service Award, often considered the highest honor a member can be given from the national association. Wertheimer served three terms as regional vice president of NAR and was an NAR director for many years. At the local level, he was president of the Greater Dallas Association and was also honored as the GDAR REALTOR® of the Year.

Wertheimer volunteered for and served in leadership roles at many community organizations, including the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Dallas, Goodwill Industries of Dallas, the Park Cities-North Dallas YMCA, the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, and the Science Place.

Benny McMahan, CEO of the Texas Association of REALTORS®, commented that few people have done as much for the association as Wertheimer. "Bob was the most dedicated, tenacious volunteer I have ever known," McMahan said. "He never just volunteered; he approached every assignment from a leadership position. He was always prepared. He made a difference."
