Copper wiring doesn’t cut it

Copper wiring is no longer acceptable to most commercial building tenants, according to the Dallas Business Journal. More tenants insist that fiber-optic wiring be in place so they can have access to broadband service. Without it, most companies say they are at a disadvantage.

Some property managers even go so far as to say that a building without the most up-to-date wiring is as good as a building without walls. For many existing buildings, this means hiring a telecommunications provider to retrofit the structure, since fiber-optic networks require riser space for the wiring, sufficient electrical power, and backup systems.

Making the change in wiring, though, is essential for the future of commercial properties. Fiber-optic wiring is expected to be the standard in the future since the wires are smaller and have an almost unlimited capacity for carrying data. And wiring isn’t the only change. A growing number of companies also require satellite dishes. It’s all part of the trend toward a wireless business world.
