Meet and greet your way to new business

Holiday parties are great opportunities to meet new people. And every new contact is a potential future client. So, how do you go about breaking the ice and keeping the conversation going? Here are some tips from Don Gabor, author of the best-selling book and audiotape, How to Start a Conversation & Make Friends:

  1. Use eye contact and smiling as your first contact with people.
  2. Be the first to say hello.
  3. Take risks. Don’t anticipate rejection.
  4. Ask a person’s name if you have forgotten it.
  5. Show curiosity and interest in others.
  6. Be able to tell others what you do in a few short sentences.
  7. Let others play the expert.
  8. Balance talking and listening in a conversation.
  9. Ask other people for their opinions.
  10. Compliment others about what they are wearing, doing, or saying.
